DAP facilitates Bureau of Plant Industry strategic planning workshop (November 9, 2016)

The Development Academy of the Philippines, in another case of fulfilling a commitment to provide responsive interventions, has helped the Bureau of Plant Industry (BPI) to take the initial steps towards making itself a “better-performing institution.”

The Academy, through its Center for Governance-Operations Management Office, recently conducted a series of activities to help the Bureau define its strategic direction in the next six years. It facilitated a strategic planning workshop for the BPI on October 11-14, 2016 at the BPI Conference Room in Malate, Manila.

Prior to the workshop, key findings and recommendations from the Bureau’s Organization Performance and Capacity Assessment Report (OPCAR) were presented to its top management on September 30, 2016.

Attendees encouraged

Dr. Vivencio R. Mamaril, OIC-Director of the BPI, opened the workshop by encouraging the attendees to take part and join him in the journey of improving the bureau. He asked everyone to be objective and open-minded in dealing with possible developments that may emerge from the four-day activity.

Michael Sollera, Planning Officer of the Department of Agriculture (DA), then discussed the current thrusts of the Department and key strategies  under the present administration affecting the plant industry.

Strategic directions determined

The workshop enabled the participants to revisit the BPI’s vision and mission as well as craft its core values statements.  Taking into consideration the results of the organizational performance and capacity assessments, they were able to determine their strategic objectives and identify performance measures as well as targets.

The workshop was attended by the center chiefs of the Baguio, Guimaras, La Granja, Los Baños and Davao National Crop Research Development and Production   Support Centers; the division chiefs and assistant division chiefs of the National Plant Quarantine Services Division, National Seed Quality Control Services Division, Crop Pest Management Division, Crop Research and Production  Support Division, Plant Product Safety Services Division, and Agricultural Engineering Division; and senior leaders of the BPI’s Administrative Division and Planning Section.
