President Antonio Kalaw Jr. said that the Development Communication Coordinating Network (DevComNet) assembly hosted by the Academy last January 21-22 may serve as a good marketing tool for the DAP’s programs.
The DAP’s top official made the statement based on feedback and the fact that the assembly gathered government communicators from a cross section of the country’s various government agencies and institutions who have access to their respective personnel.
Kalaw, who called the event organized by Corporate Communications a “big success,” said he saw the great interest coming from the public information officers of government offices, some 49 of whom came to exchange notes with their counterparts during the affair where Kalaw spoke about the Academy’s programs and Carlos Sayco Jr., liaison officer of the Asian Productivity Organization at the DAP, discussed the history of the productivity movement in the Philippines as well as the country’s designation as Center of Excellence on Public Sector Productivity of the APO.
Forum for exchange
The assembly became a forum for exchange among the government communicators, who updated each other about what their respective offices and agencies have been doing of late and the plans and programs that each agency has in the pipeline.
Kalaw highlighted in his speech the various programs the Academy has been offering government officials and personnel, including courses under the Public Management Development Program, which include the Middle Managers Class (MMC) and the Senior Executives Class (SEC).
The SEC is designed for incumbents of positions with a salary grade of 25 and higher, while the MMC is designed for “high-performing and high-potential” incumbents of positions with a salary grade of 18 to 24. Applications for slots in Batch 11 of the MMC that is set to start on February 19 have been processed while those for Batch 12 that will begin on April 22 are now being accepted. A third batch for the same course will start September 9.
Meanwhile, applications for Batch 5 of the SEC are now also being accepted, with the course set to start on June 20.
Other courses
Other available training courses being offered by the Academy include the Training Course for Managers and Supervisors in the Public Sector (5Ps) and the Orientation Course in Competency Modeling and Profiling. The latter will hold its first training course on February 16-19.
The DevComNet assembly was the first such event hosted by the DAP since 2013 and the fourth it has so far, with the first coming in 2008. The agencies and offices represented in this latest edition were the Philippine Information Agency, Civil Service Commission, National Economic and Development Authority, Philippine National Police, Department of Education, National Commission for Culture and the Arts, Philippine Navy, Philippine Air Force, Office for Transportation Security, News and Information Bureau, Radio and Television Malacañang, National Housing Authority, Department of Public Works and Highways, Philippine Coconut Authority, Council for the Welfare of Children, Government Service Insurance System, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines, National Food Authority, Department of Energy, Philippine Broadcasting Service, National Bureau of Investigation, National Police Commission, Philippine National Volunteers Service Coordinating Agency, Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, Metro Manila Development Authority, PTV 4, Bureau of Fire Protection, Cooperative Development Authority, and Local Water Utilities Administration.
