As one DAP family, we express our deepest condolences to those Former Secretary Fulgencio “Jun” Factoran Jr. left behind.

Secretary Jun Factoran served as a member of the DAP Board of Trustees for five years and we will always remember him as a staunch advocate for reform and an honorable public servant. He saw nobility in public service and the legacy he leaves behind is an example of how one can serve his country with honor and excellence.

While serving as DENR Secretary during the administration of then President Corazon C. Aquino, his centerpiece program was reforestation and he transferred stewardship of forests to the communities who lived in them. He also oversaw the biggest redeployment of employees and officials of the DENR in his efforts to reorganize and decentralize the department. These show his commitment to reforming and strengthening institutions and empowering leaders and communities to make them more effective participants in nation building.

Former Secretary Factoran’s passing is a great loss not only for his family, his friends, and for us— the DAP community, but also for the nation whom he served with honor and courage. From joining the fight for freedom and helping the government during the transition that came after the restoration of democracy, as well as the work he did outside of government, his life serves as an inspiration to public servants and to all Filipinos.

We honor the legacy that Secretary Factoran has left us as we mourn his passing. We offer our prayers for the eternal repose of his soul. May he Rest in Peace.

From the Chairman and Members of the Board of Trustees, Officers and Staff of the Development Academy of the Philippines.
