The Public Management Development Program, in partnership with the Asian Productivity Organization, held a Leadership Forum on Strategic Foresight on July 25, 2019 at the Development Bank of the Philippines, Makati City.

Second row, middle left to middle right: IMC Head Celso Santiago Jr., APO Liaison Officer Tristan Suratos, Dr. Anita Sykes-Kelleher, PMDP Managing Director Nanette Caparros and Program Manager Reina Carmelita Young

Dr. Anita Sykes-Kelleher from Australia, the founder and director of Designer Futures, led the forum as the resource speaker.

Fifty-two alumni from fifteen batches of the Middle Managers Class and seven batches of the Senior Executives Class from Region I to Region XII listened intently to Dr. Anita’s discussion which aimed to equip them with skills that will enable them to lead and transform their respective agencies through futurism. The Australian resource speaker shared that to be a future-fit leader, one should practice Strategic Foresight by preparing for as many futures as possible and planning for all of these.

“As a senior leader, your job is to spot things that others didn’t spot.”
– Dr. Anita on what it means to be a leader

Utilizing an interactive methodology, the alumni in a way co-created the session as they presented their expectations from the forum.

During the day, the participants shared opinions and thoughts on Strategic Foresight and planning. Ms. Kelleher highlighted VSTEEP or Values, Society, Technology, Economic, Environment and Politics as factors that must be considered in Strategic Foresight.  Good practices enumerated by the audience in their respective agencies were surfaced as well as fresh perspectives and qualities of a future-fit leader. An open forum concluded the gathering.

Apart from the PMDP alumni, Development Bank of the Philippines executives led by Senior Assistant Vice President and Assistant Corporate Secretary Atty. Cagliostro Miguel Martinez, Mr. Francis Nicolas Chua, Mr. Francis dela Paz and Ms. Christine G. Nuta attended the learning session.

Also in attendance were APO Liaison Officer Tristan Suratos, APO Manager and DAP Secretariat Lito Legaspi, PMDP Managing Director Nanette Caparros and Program Manager Reina Carmelita Young, with IMC Head Celso Santiago Jr. as the host of the event.
