A total of 27 personnel from the Philippine Fiber Industry Development Authority (PhilFIDA) underwent training on basic monitoring and evaluation recently at the DA-PCAF Building at the Department of Agriculture Compound in Diliman, Quezon City.

PhilFIDA Executive Director Kennedy Costales  during the program called for the need to protect the fiber industry by improving the services it delivers in the country. He noted that one of the pressing goals to focus on in the industry is the protection of farmers from potential losses and the provision of assistance to farmers’ income generation by monitoring the operations of the fiber industry’s stakeholders.

Participants were capacitated on various topics, including the importance of monitoring and evaluation in the government sector, approaches to data collection, mechanics for designing M&E, reporting M&E results, and jumpstarting an M&E plan for the PhilFIDA.

PhilFIDA Deputy Executive Director Ramon Branzuela, in his closing remarks, gave a rundown of the course objectives and put emphasis on the learnings of the participants and sharing these with their colleagues in their respective units and offices.

The PhilFIDA is an attached agency of the Department of Agriculture and was created as a consolidation of the former Fiber Industry Development Authority and the Cotton Development Administration in 2013.  – Jeannine Tan
